OpenDoors Phonics Kids: Learn letter sounds through play
OpenDoors Phonics Kids turns early reading practice into a game young learners actually want to play. Children tap colorful alphabet blocks, hear each sound, and watch the blocks snap together to form real words. It is a gentle, hands-on way to move from letters to reading.
The plugin follows a classic phonics order across six sound sets. Learners start with s, a, t, p, i, n, then grow through m, d, g, o, c, k, and on to e, u, r, h, b, l. Later sets add f, j, v, w, x, y, z, then digraphs such as sh, ch, th, ng, ck and qu, and finally long vowel teams like ai, ee, oa, oo and igh.
Four activities keep every session fresh:
Sounds: Tap a block to hear its sound and see a picture and example word.
Blend: Tap each sound, then press “Blend it!” to watch the blocks join and hear the whole word.
Listen & Pick: Hear a sound and choose the matching picture.
Spell It: Look at the picture and build the word by tapping sound blocks in order.
Children earn stars as they play and unlock fun titles, from Sound Seed to Phonics Champion. Progress is saved on the child’s own device.
Teachers stay in control. Choose a British, American or Australian accent, slow the voice down, and show only the activities you need. Add your own words, and upload your own recordings for any sound.
The game uses the browser’s built-in voice, so it works offline, needs no accounts, and collects no personal data. Add it to any page with one shortcode, /opendoors_phonics]. The layout is responsive and works on phones, tablets and classroom screens.
