OpenDoors Writing Coach: general writing and IELTS-style practice inside WordPress
OpenDoors Writing Coach is a WordPress plugin that helps English learners practise writing with clear models, simple tools and optional AI feedback. It is designed for everyday writing as well as IELTS-style tasks, so learners can improve whether they are writing an email or preparing for an exam.
The plugin includes six annotated model answers: a paragraph, an informal email, an opinion essay, an IELTS-style Task 2 essay, a General Training letter and an Academic Task 1 data report. Every answer is split into parts such as introduction, overview and conclusion, with short notes that explain what each part does and which useful phrases to borrow.
When learners are ready to write, they choose a task type, get a question, follow a step-by-step outline and insert linking words with one click. A live word counter shows the minimum length, and drafts are saved automatically on the learner’s device. A built-in quick check reviews structure and highlights common mistakes made by Vietnamese-speaking learners, such as missing conclusions, informal language in formal tasks and frequent grammar errors.
All of this works without an API key. For deeper help, connect your own OpenAI (GPT), Anthropic (Claude) or Google (Gemini) key. Learners receive comments on four criteria, an estimated practice band for IELTS-style tasks, corrections marked directly in their text with simple explanations, strengths and next steps. By default the AI gives feedback instead of rewriting, so learners do the work themselves. Keys stay on your server, and you can limit who uses AI feedback, the number of requests per hour and the maximum text length to keep costs under control.
