OpenDoors Reading Coach: general reading and IELTS-style practice inside WordPress
OpenDoors Reading Coach is a WordPress plugin that gives English learners a clear, instant-feedback way to practise reading. It supports everyday reading as well as IELTS-style tasks, so learners can build skills whether they are reading a notice or preparing for an exam.
The plugin includes five built-in passages with 45 auto-marked questions. Three general passages cover a market visit, library opening hours and sleep for students. Two IELTS-style passages, an academic text and a workplace notice, offer matching headings, True/False/Not Given, sentence completion and multiple-choice questions.
Learners read on one side and answer on the other. One click marks every answer, shows the correct answer and gives a short explanation that points to the paragraph where the information appears. A timer shows the suggested time for each passage, and each learner’s best score is saved on their own device. Scores are shown as raw practice scores, not IELTS bands.
All of this works without an API key. For extra support, connect your own OpenAI (GPT), Anthropic (Claude) or Google (Gemini) key. Learners can create new passages at A2 to C1 on any topic, ask for an AI explanation when an answer is wrong, and select a word to see its meaning in context. New passages are checked by the plugin before they appear, and learners are reminded that AI texts may contain mistakes. Keys stay on your server, and you decide who can use AI features and how many requests each user can make per hour.
